Sichuan is a well-know tourism province, very abundant in tourism resources. There are beautiful natural scenery, long history and wonderful culture and unique ethnical custom. The resources are characterized with large number, complete type, wide distribution and high grade. It takes the lead in China in terms of both quantity and quality of resources.

Five scenic areas, including Jiuzhai Valley, Huanglong, Mount Emei-Leshan Buddha, Mount Qingcheng-Dujiangyan Irrigation System and the giant panda habitat have been included in the world heritage list of UNESCO. There are 4 protection zones (Jiuzhai Valley, Wolong, Huanglong and Daocheng Yading) included in the MAB Network. There have been 14 state-level scenic areas and 80 provincial-level scenic areas. There are 9 AAAAA scenic areas, ranking No. 3 in terms of the number in China. Twenty-one cities are granted the title of excellent Chinese tourism cities. As of the end of 2014, there had been 168 natural protection zones, with an area of 84,000 square kilometers, accounting for 17.35% of the total land of this province, among which, there are 30 state-level natural protection zones. It has 33 wetland parks, including 20 state-level parks, and 123 forest parks, including 33 state-level parks, covering a total area of 778,800 hectares, ranking No. 7 in terms of the number in China. Sichuan has complex geologic structure, rich geomorphologic landscape and diverse geological relics. As of now, 220 geological relics have been found, including 2 world-class geological parks in Xingwen and Zigong, respectively, 16 state-level geological parks, taking the lead in terms of the number. There are 8 national famous historical and cultural cities. This province is also rich in cultural relics, having 164 museums, 230 major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, and 969 provincial culture relic protection sites. There are 139 state-level intangible cultural heritages and 522 provincial intangible cultural heritages.
