Longquanyi District boasts rich historical heritage. Longquanyi District was originally part of the ancient Shu Kingdom. Dongyang County was established in 700 AD during the Tang Dynasty and was renamed Lingquan County of Chengdu Prefecture in 1026 during the Song Dynasty, with a history spanning nearly 600 years. In 1376, it was reorganized as the Tour Inspection Division of Longquan Town and established a national courier station named "Longquanyi," a name that persists today. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, its jurisdiction was divided between Jianyang and Huayang. In 1960, the State Council approved the establishment of Longquanyi District in Chengdu City.
The district has developed robust economic strength. In 2023, the district achieved a regional GDP of RMB 150.25 billion and a general public budget revenue of RMB 8.547 billion, ranking among the top in high-quality development among similar regions in Chengdu. This marked the formation of an automotive industry ecosystem that covers all vehicle models and promotes coordinated development across the entire supply chain. Advantageous industries continue to grow, with the output value of green environmental protection, aerospace equipment, new materials and other industries reaching RMB 45.23 billion. The Industrial Economy Digital Twin Management Platform was selected as an industrial Internet demonstration pilot program by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
