During the 2021 National Day Holiday, Sichuan has promoted consumption through measures of "online + offline" and "live-streaming + short video" etc. Online retail industries, such as food, 3C products, travel and restaurant industries, drove the online retail sales to an increasing growth rate. The growth can be reflected in five aspects:

  I. Overall E-commerce Consumption Increases Steadily

Amid the holidays, the online retail sales in Sichuan have reached 25.55 billion yuan, with a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 20.8%, 5.8 percentage points higher than the nationwide level and a rise of 10.7% compared with the figure in the same period in 2019. The online service retail sales have reached 18.48 billion yuan, with a YoY increase of 21% and have returned to the pre-pandemic level. The online physical commodity retail sales reached 7.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 20.3%. Online consumption has grew positively in various cities (prefectures), among which Chengdu had its sales achieved 18.11 billion yuan, Leshan 1.89 billion yuan and Mianyang 940 million yuan. Those cities ranked top three in Sichuan.

II. Urban-rural Integration Accelerates the Consumption

During the holidays, the urban online retail sales in Sichuan have been up to 18.05 billion yuan, with a YoY increase of 20.4% and have accounted for 70.6% of the overall consumption amount. And the rural online retail sales have reached 7.51 billion yuan, with a YoY growth of 24.4% and 3.6 percentage points higher than the average level, and have accounted for 29.4% of the overall consumption amount. This means that the gap between urban and rural e-commerce consumption further narrows.

During the holidays, the physical commodity sales have been active in Sichuan and food, health supplements, 3C, household and agriculture products have sold well. The online physical commodity retail sales has reached 7.07 billion yuan, increasing by 20.3% YoY and by 55.4% compared with the sales in the same period in 2019. Mid-to-high-end environmental-friendly and energy-efficient household products, such as sweeping robots and smart dishwashers, were popular online. Meanwhile, the online retail sales of agricultural products have reached 680 million yuan, increasing by 23.6% YoY. The growth of the demand for suburb, countryside, parent-child and research travel has accelerated, further consolidating the restorative growth trend of the online service retail sales. Jiuzhaigou, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Mount Emei and Sanxingdui Museum ranked high in terms of attention index.
